Preventive Dental Hygiene
Regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Dr. Rachel Navaneelan & Associates in Cornwall can help you prevent any dental issues and keep your smile healthy.

Oral Examinations
Ideally twice a year, you'll visit your dentist for regular oral exams, which will give your dentist the opportunity to spot any oral health issues and develop a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will take a close look at the health of your teeth, jaw, bite and gums. These exams may also include an oral cancer screening, dental x-rays and any other diagnostic procedures that may be required.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can infect any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will check your face, neck, throat, tongue, lips, gums and tissues for any signs of oral cancer, which can be difficult to see with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Keeping your smile healthy between dental appointments is critical. Remember to brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day.
Hygiene Cleaning
The deep cleaning is an essential component to your dental appointment, and your dental hygienist will perform this critical task before or after your oral exam.
To start, a scaler will be used to remove any plaque buildup and tartar. Next, the hygienist will use a polisher topped with coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover plaque or stains, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
Is your child at high risk of tooth decay? Your dentist may recommend a fluoride treatment. This natural mineral can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
